Outlander season 4: Watch the new, America-based opening theme
Odds are, you know a thing or two about the theme song, otherwise known as “The Skye Boat Song,” already. You’ve seen different versions of this over the years depending on where the story is located. Take, for example, at the end of season 3 where you saw it shifted a little bit more towards a Caribbean theme.

As you can see in the new video below, the season 4 theme features many of the sights and sounds of Americana, and is meant to be more of a reflection of the story’s new themes and styles. It is tighter in some ways than the Caribbean version of the song, and feels very Earthy and simple. The accompanying visuals are also different, and of course a reflection of what you would expect to see in 18th-century America during this time.
Given how there is a great deal of the story of Outlander that is set in America moving forward, we imagine that this is a variation on the theme that we are going to get used to over time. With that being said, there is still a part of us that hopes on some level that, at least by the time the series is done, we get a chance to actually hear the original version of it again. There’s a sense of nostalgia that goes along with the Bear McCreary original.
