America’s Got Talent: The Champions still filming; lineup shrouded in mystery

America’s Got Talent: The Champions is the ambitious new spin-off series to the flagship show premiering in the new year, but for the time being, there is still quite a bit about it under warps.

Take, for example, the lineup. The performers slated to take part seem to be for the most part under the radar, which is likely an intentional choice on producers’ part since they don’t want all of the participants to be leaked too far in advance. At the moment, Susan Boyle seems to be reasonably-confirmed to be taking part and that’s about it. Our expectation, at least for the time being, is that we’re going to see a mixture of notable acts from the American version of the show coupled with some other international iterations. There are probably a good twenty or so acts just from Britain’s Got Talent alone we’d love to see a again — a big part of the fun of this show is that it really gives you a brace to embrace fun, international talent.

The photo below from Heidi Klum’s Instagram confirms that the spin-off continues to film. For those who haven’t heard, the entire series is going to be pre-taped! This show is not going to be structured in the same way that some other America’s Got Talent ones have in the past. It doesn’t appear that there is any sort of live-TV element, at least for most of the season. A number of shows are being taped in advance over a reasonably short period of time.

As for whether or not any of this will actually work, the obvious concern with doing another edition of America’s Got Talent is that you end up diluting your brand. One of the things that we really liked about America’s Got Talent as a whole was that it only aired in the summer. you really had a chance to miss it in the time in which it was off the air, and we’re not sure that you will get that with many of the other shows.
