Queen of the South renewed (finally!) for season 4 at USA
We have expected the news about a renewal to come in for a good while now but for whatever reason, the folks over at the network wanted to wait, potentially to see more DVR figures, before they tendered some sort of firm decision. Now, they have confirmed that it will come back, and with some new showrunners behind the scenes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dailyn Rodriguez and Ben Lobato are stepping into the role after Natalie Chaidez took on the role for this season. Chaidez is leaving in order to focus more on development; she previously replaced the show’s original showrunner in Scott Rosenbaum.
Sometimes, we do think that showrunner changes behind the scenes for a series can be scary. Yet, in this case we have two people who know the Queen of the South world very well and have worked on it for at least a couple of years. We don’t expect all that much will change on the series itself, and that is really the goal anytime there is a showrunner change unless there is something severely wrong for whatever reason. we don’t exactly think that this is the case here.
The fourth season of Queen of the South will more than likely premiere on USA next summer. The reason for the timing of this renewal is to help ensure that there is still plenty of time for the network to cultivate a little bit more of the story while also giving them plenty to actually make the show. Both are important for a high-quality cable drama.
