Empire season 5 episode 2 preview: ‘Pay for Their Presumptions’
Basically, with season 5 we are bringing these characters back to the start, before they have all of the resources and money that helped to create superstars. It is a far different world when they have to rely more on themselves and their own gumption to get success. In the old days, there was also so much less in the way of competition, as well. They didn’t have to worry about social media or YouTube being other venues in which stars can be launched. There are so many different ways in which it can happen now, and that makes them a little less valuable beyond just name recognition and their resumes.
Basically, Cookie and Lucious have their work cut out for them. The Empire season 5 episode 2 synopsis below illuminates that, while also showing some of the struggles ahead when it comes to Jamal:
Cookie and Lucious learn the difficulties of launching an artist without Empire Entertainment’s resources, and their future with new artist Treasure (guest star Kaitlynn Simone) is jeopardized. So when they receive two interesting offers that will launch them back into power in the music industry, they make a surprising decision. Meanwhile, Jamal decides to put his family first and move back to New York, leaving Kai (guest star Toby Onwumere) with some tough decisions in the all-new “Pay For Their Presumptions” episode of EMPIRE airing Wednesday, Oct. 3 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (EMP-502) (TV-14 D, L, S, V)
This episode is going to be a good one to introduce what the larger story for Jamal is going to be for this season — and, beyond that, to see if Lucious and Cookie really can rise up. There is a lot of good story to unpack coming up and we’re excited to see what that looks like.
