Chicago Fire season 7 on set: Kara Killmer on future of Brettonio
We’ve heard for many weeks now that the relationship between Brett and Antonio is well-loved by producers and fans alike; yet, it’s a difficult thing to balance out because of separate storylines on separate shows. After it being featured a little more last season, it looks as though in the immediate future things are going to be on hold.

Speaking on the subject of the relationship at One Chicago Day, Kara Killmer had the following to say to CarterMatt on the subject and a possible new love interest for her character:
“I know you won’t see him for the first half of the season. It’s such an interesting dynamic, because I really think they did not anticipate for that relationship to turn into what it has. The fans really like it and [Jon Seda] and I work so well together.
“But, we’re on two different shows! It really is a logistical challenge. Jon is a lead on PD. I think they would love for it to work if they could make it happen, but maybe it’s not meant to be. I will always hold a candle for that relationship, but I think it also has its pitfalls. I think that maybe this year you’ll see someone else that Brett will get involved with. We’ll see how that goes.”
The fact that Jon is a lead serves as a nice counter-argument to those who say that Chicago Fire / PD are able to make the cross-show romance between Mouch and Platt work. Both of these characters play more of a supporting role, and with that there is a little more flexibility to move them around. With bringing Jon Seda over, it may be even more challenging with Dawson (Monica Raymund) not in the picture — though you have to think Antonio and Casey have a good relationship at this point.
Brett does have a new possible friend on her side this season in fellow paramedic Emily Foster, played by Annie Ilonzeh (pictured with Killmer above). She’s someone you will meet on the horizon, and Ilonzeh is eager to explore the new Foster – Brett dynamic. She’s also eager to see what the future holds for Brett’s personal life. Here’s what she had to say to us:
“It’s fun to see what else is on the horizon. Maybe she’ll get something really positive; she deserves it!”
For those wondering, you are going to learn a few interesting things about Foster on Wednesday’s premiere, including that she has some surprising skills and an interesting backstory that could come to light over time.
