Beau Garrett leaving The Good Doctor, will not be regular in season 2

Beau Garrett

We already knew that Chuku Modu would be leaving The Good Doctor as a regular; now, Beau Garrett is joining him.

According to a report via TVLine, Garrett will be departing the role of attorney Jessica Preston, who helped most of the doctors at St. Bonaventure handle some of their affairs. She previously had a romantic relationship with Dr. Melendez, and she also had a personal connection to Dr. Glassman as she was friends with his late daughter. They had a close bond, but we do wonder if a part of the reason for her exit is tied to the fact that she didn’t have too many bonds with the other characters on the show anymore.

At the moment, Garrett is credited to appear in some upcoming season 2 episodes, so we hope that this means she will be surfacing a few times and we will get a chance to see the reasoning for her character’s exit.

The Good Doctor has experienced a pretty high amount of turnover for a show that was largely well-received in its first season. Both Modu and Garrett are now gone, while we are adding Paige Spara, Will Yun Lee, and Fiona Gubelmann to the mix as regular cast members moving into the second season. It feels somewhat like the show will be taking somewhat less of a legal approach without the Jessica character around, but we suppose it’s also possible that they may just find a different person to play an attorney character who they could use on a relatively infrequent basis. We just hope that there are some opportunities to see Garrett again coming up given that we do have an attachment now to this character.
