Timeless star Abigail Spencer books lead in Hulu pilot Reprisal

While Abigail Spencer still has two more hours of Timeless to deliver to us before her work on the series is completely done, she is also figuring out what’s next.

According to a report from Deadline, Spencer’s next potential role seems as though it is going to be very different from the heroic Lucy Preston. She is set to star in the pilot Reprisal over at Hulu from executive producer Warren Littlefield, which is described as a “hyper-kinetic revenge tale following a relentless femme fatale (Spencer) who, after being left for dead, leads a vengeful campaign against a bombastic gang of gearheads.” This is going to be a story of revenge and of someone doing whatever it takes in order to ensure that she gets the vengeance that she feels she deserves.

There isn’t too much else that is out there about this series, but it definitely feels like a totally different sort of role for her and one that will present some exciting challenges for Spencer as a performer.

As for what this means in terms of the future of Timeless beyond the movie, the simplest answer that we can offer you is mostly just that Spencer is still going to have an opportunity to play Lucy if there is some interest in the series elsewhere down the line. The scheduling may have to get more creative if Reprisal is picked up, but doing one project doesn’t exactly negate the other. We’re in a very different era of TV now, especially when so many shows often do shorter seasons and that opens the door for more opportunities.

We’ve said this all along, but the Timeless cast doing a lot of other work is both great for them and great for the show, since there’s a chance that viewers of future programs are going to discover the cast and, hopefully, seek out some of their other work.
