Should a Queen of the South season 4 renewal announcement come soon?

Is it possible that we could hear about a Queen of the South season 4 renewal sooner rather than later? At the moment, we certainly hope so — and also do feel like it’s possible. The whole point of this article is to take a closer examination into the series’ numbers, where it stands now, and where it could go moving forward.

The most important factor in determining the future for any series comes via the ratings, and the news there when it comes to Queen of the South is fairly good. To date, the USA series is averaging, at least in terms of live ratings, a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.1 million viewers weekly. These decreases from season 2 are fairly minimal, and the decreases from season 1 to season 2 were also minimal in their own way. Queen of the South has, as a whole, some of the best retention out of any show on TV! There are so many shows out there now that lose 10% or more viewers from one season to the next for many different reasons, whether it be more viewing options or disinterest in the progression of the story. Queen of the South is a marvel and an exception to the rule in terms of commercial success.

Where this series also stands out right now is in terms of promotion. It’s not as though Queen of the South is the beneficiary of some enormous ad campaign! Unless you are watching other series within the USA / NBCUniversal family, you probably aren’t seeing many ads for it. This is a series based almost entirely on loyalty and catering to a fan base that feels under-served on a larger market. The story is addicting and the characters, flawed as they may be, are also fantastic. There’s little reason to think that the series cannot continue for many more years.

As for a season 4 renewal, we’re labeling that a given at the moment. It’s largely just a question as to when USA wants to make the renewal official.
