If The Last Kingdom season 4 happens, when could it film?
What does feel fairly clear is this: If Netflix wants to release a season a year, they will likely have to be fairly on the ball in order to make it happen. They would likely not only have to order a fourth season this year, but also begin some sort of work on it. Filming for this series is reasonably secretive, and we don’t think that this is going to change at any point in the near future.
Just for the sake of clarity, it seems valuable to hand out a little more information. There was first buzz around a renewal for The Last Kingdom last fall for season 3, which means that this will be a good time to start looking for casting notices and the like. Having a renewal in September or October would give the cast and crew time to get everything together for a fourth season that could premiere on Netflix in 2019.
This is all wonderful to think about, mostly because hiatuses are awful and nobody likes them. Yet, it’s also fair to recognize that there’s a reasonably good chance that there will be a long one between season 3 and 4, provided a fourth season happens. With the series shifting exclusively over to Netflix, they may want to take their time before issuing a renewal — that means we could not see one until late this year or early next. While there are some shows that do get renewed before they even premiere (we’ve seen Netflix do this especially with Orange is the New Black), there are many others that they wait on. Netflix isn’t hard up on content, and that does afford them the luxury of patience that many other networks / streaming services do not have.
No matter when The Last Kingdom season 3 launches, rest assured that there will be coverage at CarterMatt every step of the way.
