The Originals season 5 episode 13 video: Julie Plec previews series finale
In the video that CarterMatt has for you below, you can see Julie Plec and Jeffrey Lieber do their part to detail what’s coming up in this last episode. It’s a crazy journey for these characters, who first started to show up midway through the run of The Vampire Diaries. Moving into the start of the finale, it is fairly clear just what the stakes are. There is a white oak stake at Klaus’ heart, and he is ready to take his own life in order to ensure that everyone else in the family ends up okay. He’s ready to go through with this, but is everyone else ready for him to do that?
The thing that makes this series finale so interesting is that it’s pretty clear where it begins, but beyond that, almost everything remains a mystery. The promotional photos for this episode, including the one above, show Joseph Morgan’s character seemingly alive and at a dinner table … with the operative word here being “seemingly.” Maybe he is already dead and at Peace, or maybe someone else within the family came up with a different sort of solution to the problem that would allow him to live.
No matter what, this episode marks an end of an era and an opportunity to see and understand better what the entire story for The Originals was really all about. While we do know it to be a story about family, it’s also about overcoming darkness and seeing that there is a way to have a more positive impact on the world. This is something that Klaus has had to figure out over time, given that he was basically a full-on monster when we first met him at the start of The Vampire Diaries. Hope has changed him, but we don’t necessarily think that she is the only factor.
