Want to buy a Game of Thrones castle? It’s yours, if you have a ton of money

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is famous for many things, whether it be its fantastic characters, tremendous action, or its stunning visuals. It also manages to find some great settings for many of its noteworthy scenes.

It is with that in mind we come with some news regarding Gosford Castle, which served as the setting for Riverrun, the home of House Tully on the show. According to an official listing, offers that are over £500,000 for a sizable chunk of the property that can be turned into a wide array of different things, whether it be residences, a hotel, or even a tourist attraction thanks to it being used on on of the biggest televisions shows ever.

We have to be honest here: £500,000 doesn’t really seem like all that much money for castle property in Northern Ireland, especially when you’re paying more than that to get a three-bedroom home in Orange County out here in California. Our feeling? They’re trying to start some sort of bidding war here. Also, remember that the castle probably needs a lot of renovating and upkeep — and, apparently, there is no heating in some of the rooms. That’s not exactly ideal given how cold it can be sometimes in Northern Ireland. It’s also pretty far removed from the city so it’s probably not for someone who has to work in Belfast.

In general, though, many different locations have benefited greatly from the presence of Game of Thrones over time. Northern Ireland has experienced a boost in tourism, and beyond that the same can be said for Dubrovnik, where the series filmed its King’s Landing scenes for many years. As a matter of fact, the city is largely iconic with TV fans for many different reasons.
