This Is Us season 3 spoilers: Rob Morgan cast as politician Solomon Brown

Who is Solomon Brown on This Is Us season 3? Based on early indications, he’s going to be an enormous part of the upcoming season.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mudbound actor Rob Morgan is going to be appearing on the upcoming season of the NBC show as a longtime Philadelphia City Congressman, someone who oversaw the same district that William lived in at one point. Odds are, this character is going to have some close interactions with one of the series’ major characters — the easy assumption to draw here is that this character is going to be Randall, but you don’t want to draw any assumptions for certain.

In speaking on the storyline that Morgan’s casting seems to be connected, executive producer Dan Fogelman had the following to say to the aforementioned website:

“Someone starts entering the world of local politics … It’s nothing big and national — nothing Republican vs. Democrat or left vs. right — but we’re going to dive into some community hot political waters with a surprising character.”

We do think that This Is Us can tell some powerful stories about politics in this space, and in a fairly non-partisan manner. Remember the days when politics used to be about specific issues on a community level? Back before the internet, it really felt like there were more people who cared specifically about what was going on around them and issues that were especially important on a local level. If we had to draw an assumption or two, this is what This Is Us could be trying to get back towards moving forward this season. They may have an interest in spotlighting a little more of the struggles that are going on in the local community, and with that, Randall or some other character can find a greater sense of purpose.
