This Is Us season 3 filming is officially underway and based on the photo below, there are actually some happy moments ahead!
The photo below comes courtesy of show executive producer Dan Fogelman, and it also features front and center Sterling K. Brown looking very much excited in a scene as Randall. What’s going on with him and Beth? It’s hard to tell based on this alone, but this is far from the sort of expression you typically see for a character on This Is Us. (Because of the way in which this photo is taken, it’s pretty clear that this is from the show itself and is not some random behind-the-scenes shot.)
There is something rather interesting and poetic about seeing this in contrast to what we saw at the end of season 2, which was a really emotional flash-forward that had Randall at the center of it. There was a feeling of great loss that was pretty there and it served to raise a very important question: Is someone else going to die years down the line? While we like to think of This Is Us first and foremost as a show about family, there’s also an element of mystery here and that is something that we imagine will persist for many more months to come. Beyond the flash-forwards, there is another substantial mystery that is present here when it comes to Jack’s past in Vietnam … but that’s not something that is referenced in this tweet at all.
Stakes are obviously going to be high for This Is Us moving forward, but that’s what happens when you are a perennial Emmy contender and you have delivered fantastic ratings through two seasons already.
