Law & Order: SVU season 20 casting news: Dylan Walsh to recur
According to a report from Deadline, the former Nip/Tuck and Life Sentence actor will be recurring in the role of John Conway, a man described as a “self-made man and major beverage distributor who is respected by his community and looked up to by his children.” Knowing SVU, you can parse some of this information and see that he may be a man with an incredibly dark side, someone who preys on other people close to him in a despicable manner. While it’s obviously too early to know for certain what’s inside this character’s heart, the show’s history is a pretty clear indicator that it’s probably not great.
Perhaps the biggest surprise here is mostly that this character is recurring, mostly because people with Conway’s description are the ones that you tend to see for maybe an episode and that’s it. Because he is around longer, it is possible that Conway is connected to multiple cases, or even has a relationship with someone close to the SVU. There are a few different ways in which the writers could take this story, but our feeling at the moment is that it is probably complicated. Most things in this world are and SVU has to find a way to creatively match a pretty intense arc in the fall of season 19 with Brooke Shields on board. That is one that especially tested Olivia Benson in several different ways.
Walsh is the second known actor to recur over season 20. We previously reported that Scandal alum George Newbern is going to be coming on board as a former flame of Amanda Rollins’ who may find himself back in her life in some capacity.
Remember, SVU premieres on NBC on Thursday, September 27 in its new timeslot at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.
