More details on Animal Kingdom star Denis Leary’s new USA pilot
According to a report from Deadline, Leary is going to be teaming up with his former Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll star Elaine Hendrix on an upcoming USA Network pilot by the name of Erase. Here, Leary is set to play a “former slimy cop” named Donal O’Neal. Meanwhile, Hendrix’s character Tanne is meant to be a “fun, loving” person who also everything that she can to help take care of problems. Erase is being co-created by Leary alongside Alex Cary, and the story revolves around Leary’s character, an “ill cop who changes his stripes after a life altering revelation and decides to bring down his corrupt superiors in the department.”
Basically, this is the sort of potential series that could allow Leary to shine, given that he does a really good job at playing some of these broken characters looking for either redemption or to prove to other people that they are worthy of it … even when they are not. This is a chance for him to shake things up and get back to being the lead of a series again. For at least the remainder of this season, he is going to have a chance to tell more of the Animal Kingdom story as Billy, Deran’s father and a guy who is clearly up to no good ever since surfacing back in town. While he is a fascinating character to watch, it still feels very much as though his true purpose and status in the world has yet to be fully revealed. Maybe this is something that the show will give us a little bit more insight about in due time, given that for now, there are many questions.
Ultimately, though, what this pilot tell us is that Leary’s Animal Kingdom character is probably not meant to be around permanently. Enjoy Billy now, given that it is not entirely clear if he will be back around tomorrow.
