Save Shadowhunters update: The petition, London buses, Seoul subway stations

In today’s update all about saving Shadowhunters, there are a few different exciting things worth pointing out — with all of them tying back into the show’s popularity on a global scale. The fandom’s been global for many years now, but there are more examples of its international popularity now than potentially ever before.

For starters, anyone can sign the petition to try and save the show no matter who you are — as of this writing, it is close to 140,000 signatures, which is pretty massive for a petition all about saving a show.  The higher that total goes, the more appealing it may be for any other network or streaming provider that is out there.

Meanwhile, there are also a couple of different campaigns that are going on to make more of an imprint in major cities, much like we saw with the Times Square billboard and the airplane banner that flew over Netflix Headquarters. Fans are raising money to get advertisements posted on London buses and also in Seoul subway stations. These are both places with an extreme amount of foot traffic and it makes sense to try and capitalize on that. It also may help to show international distributors that the love of the show is there.

How much are things like banners and advertisements helping? We think personally they’re probably more impactful than many out there are giving them credit for. It’s something that is physical and tangible that executives can look at. If they are on the fence about picking up Shadowhunters, maybe this will convince them to give the series a closer look. The biggest thing that all of these campaigns achieve is reminding everyone in the industry that Shadowhunters fans are out there and cannot be forgotten about. What makes this particular campaign stand out is not only the resiliency of it, but also the creativity and the dedication from people involved. It’s great to have a petition, but it’s equally important that fans are doing other things and trying to cover just about every base they can. After everything that the fans have done, they really deserve an opportunity to see this story play out a little while longer.
