Quick Hits: Jude Law joins The New Pope; new Jenna Dewan, Chris Pine series

The Young Pope

In this edition of Quick Hits, let’s kick things off with some excellent news for The New Pope — Jude Law is returning!

This news comes courtesy of Deadline, and it feels pretty easy to figure out why HBO would be happy to get Law back — he was excellent in The Young Pope, which is being technically treated as a separate miniseries. It’s not entirely clear as of yet if Law will be reprising his role as Lenny in the new project, or playing a different character altogether.

Meanwhile, The New Pope has also booked John Malkovich as a co-star in the project — just to ensure that there is some more significant star power at the center of the show.

As for some other news of the day…

Mixtape lands at Netflix – Originally envisioned as a Fox pilot, this series, starring Jenna Dewan, Callie Hernandez, and others, has landed with a ten-episode order at the streaming service. According to Deadline, this series follows a number of people across Los Angeles who are connected by the world of music — which shouldn’t be altogether shocking, given that the title for this show is what it is.

This is one of the latest Fox products to find itself revived elsewhere, as NBC already saved Brooklyn Nine-Nine from cancellation while Netflix already acquired Lucifer after the series was canceled by Fox after three seasons on the air.

All about I Am the Night – If you loved The Alienist, TNT is launching another series in the same vein in January entitled I Am the Night starring Chris Pine and India Eisley. Pine’s former Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is on board as an executive producer.

If you want to know more, take a look at the synopsis below:

I Am the Night tells the incredible story of Fauna Hodel (Eisley) who was given away at birth. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets to her past, she follows a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Hollywood gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel (Mays), a man involved in the darkest Hollywood debauchery. Pine plays Jay Singletary, a former Marine-turned-hack-reporter/paparazzo.
