Arrow season 7 premiere title hints at what’s next

Arrow

Today, new Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz continued a tradition that was first kicked off by previous showrunner Marc Guggenheim of releasing episode titles leading up to pre-production.

So what’s the title for the season 7 premiere? Think in terms of “Inmate 5487,” a clear reference to Oliver’s status in prison following the end of season 6. After everything that he’s been through trying to save Star City, this is his fate — at least for now. It only seems appropriate that Schwartz has also replicated the feeling of the Green Arrow behind bars for the title reveal, no? Schwartz wrote this episode alongside Oscar Balderrama, and frequent premiere episode director (and show stunt coordinator) James Bamford is back once more.

This episode is going to potentially pick up where season 6 left off, but there’s also a chance for a time jump depending on just where the writers want to push the story. This isn’t the first storyline in the Arrowverse featuring a main character trapped behind bars, as The Flash recently did it this past season. Granted, the reasoning behind Barry Allen’s arrest was certainly different than Oliver’s, and we figure for him to get out of prison, it’s probably going to take a very different set of circumstances.

Beyond Oliver’s stay in prison, much of everything else when it comes to Arrow season 7 is still a mystery. Given that Ricardo Diaz is still alive, we do have a feeling that he is going to be a part of the show again eventually … but there is no guarantee of that happening in the immediate future. The biggest addition to the cast moving forward is Colton Haynes, reprising his role as Roy Harper. We are already wondering if Roy is somehow responsible for helping to carry the torch of crime-fighter in Oliver’s absence, even though that’s not something he has done for a good while.
