Take Two premiere ratings start low at ABC
To be specific, we’re talking here about a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.4 million viewers. While it technically did win its timeslot in viewers, it was competing against repeats and only tied SWAT and Law & Order: SVU in the demo. That’s not a great start — sure, it was also up against the NBA Draft, but by the time in which Take Two aired, most of the meat of the draft was already over.
There’s no other way to describe the start for the show than troublesome, given that most new shows tend to lose at least 10% of their viewership moving into the second episode. We personally found the premiere to be great fun and a welcome shot of energy in an otherwise lacking summer when it comes to fun procedural shows. Unfortunately, unless Take Two picks it up from here it’s hard to see ABC making a real move towards airing other scripted content in the summer. They largely abandoned it last year, and Take Two was an opportunity to show that they could still find a way to get some great content out there.
We did think that the premiere of Take Two was very satisfying (read our review for it here) — it’s not going to complete reinvent the genre, but it was a fun, lighthearted show that featured a great performance from Rachel Bilson. Unfortunately, neither she nor Eddie Cibrian have been enormous ratings draws in some time, even though they may be relatively familiar to some TV fans out there.
