Cable ratings: Into the Badlands, Animal Kingdom, and Westworld

Into the Badlands season 3 episode 9 return date

In this edition of Cable Ratings, we’ve got a trio of different shows worth examining who are all coming off of some pivotal episodes. We like to think that these numbers say a lot in terms of how various fans think about these shows and what some of their long-term futures could be.

Into the Badlands – Let’s start with the AMC martial-arts drama, which aired on Sunday its final installment for at least a little while. This episode generated in total a 0.3 rating and just under 900,000 viewers, which is its lowest total of the season. Of course, it was hurt slightly by the fact that there was no lead-in Sunday via Fear the Walking Dead, and we hope that this doesn’t hurt the show’s chances at a fourth season. Fingers crossed that one way or another, we end up seeing the show come back. (Granted, there are still some more episodes to come this season, as well.)

Animal Kingdom – How did the first episode fare with Denis Leary? Overall, we would say that there’s a reasonable amount for TNT to be pleased with! The show not only matched the 0.4 average it has posted this season in the demo but when it comes to total viewers, it posted its best live numbers of the season in 1.33 million. Baz’s exit, at least for now, is not slowing anything down in the slightest. So far, season 3 is actually up in all measurements versus season 4, which likely means a renewal is right around the corner.

Westworld – Finally, let’s turn to the HBO epic, which posted 1.56 million viewers for the penultimate episode of the season. That’s close to the season average and that means that overall, this show is holding firm and the viewers it has are the ones they are keeping for the time being. It’s also worth celebrating given that we know that Westworld already has a season 3 renewal.
