Supergirl season 4: Why is Jeremy Jordan leaving as series regular?

Winn Schott

Just in case you were wondering why Jeremy Jordan is leaving Supergirl as a series regular, we’ve now got some sort of official answer to the subject.

In a new post on Instagram (see below), Jordan makes it clear that it was his decision to eventually depart the series, saying that he had a feeling in his gut that he wanted to be back home spending time with his wife and his friends. He insisted that Winn Schott would return in season 4 and that he has no intention of being gone from the show for good.

This announcement is nice to have, since it adds some further context to a departure that in many ways felt sudden on the series. With that said, it also makes a certain degree of sense. When Supergirl was first ordered as a series over at CBS, production took place in Los Angeles. Jordan and many other cast members signed on to do work for the show in California. It was only after the move to The CW that production shifted over to Vancouver, and that left many of the actors a little displaced after originally calling California home. That’s one of the reasons why Calista Flockhart’s role has decreased significantly, and honestly we’re grateful that so many cast members stuck with the show entirely. Many of the actors on Supergirl were more publicly known than others within the Arrowverse — Jordan had a substantial stage career, Mehcad Brooks has a number of great credits, Chyler Leigh was on Grey’s Anatomy, and David Harewood was exceptional on Homeland. It’s been great to keep as many cast members as possible.

Yet, departures were bound to happen over time, and for Jordan Supergirl‘s loss is most likely Broadway’s gain given that this could give him more opportunities to return to the stage or find some other roles that appeal to his passions.

We’ve said before that Winn is one of our favorite characters in the Arrowverse and we stand by that. Yet, we’re immensely happy that he is going to pursue what he wants, and it’s better that he comes back to the show here and there than stay in a full-time position that he doesn’t want. Hopefully, Winn brings some great stories from the future the next time he visits.
