NCIS: New Orleans season 5: How can it unravel Pride cliffhanger?
In the closing minutes of the season 4 finale, it was clear that Scott Bakula’s character was in grave danger. He was shot for his role in stopping what effectively was a massive coup, and in the closing seconds, was left to bleed out.
Is this really that much of a cliffhanger, though? In terms of the characters in the moment, we absolutely think that it is. This is a life-or-death crisis and precisely the sort of thing that Pride’s team should be concerned about. If they reacted to this any other way, it would be completely out of character for everything that we’ve learned about them over time.
Do we think that he will be okay? Absolutely, and at the heart of the premiere will likely be characters rushing in and doing virtually everything within their power to make sure that Dwayne is okay. That then brings us to the next order of business, and that is seeing the NCIS: New Orleans team try to get justice for what happens to them. Maybe this unlocks a conspiracy that is far larger than they realize, or maybe the season 5 premiere starts to wind down everything that happened over the course of the season 4 finale.
Either way, we’re not approaching the premiere thinking that Pride is in mortal danger, but the writers need to ensure that they do a good job actually selling some of the stakes. From our vantage point, the idea of him bouncing back from what happened immediately is completely unrealistic. Sure, these shows may you suspend belief here and there, but this is a little bit of a road too far.
