The Ranch season 4 renewal: Why it could be in limbo

Ranch season 3 premiere date

This weekend, the first half of The Ranch season 3 started streaming on Netflix and with that, the show officially removed Danny Masterson from the cast. This ends a saga that has dragged down this show for a long time — we do still wish it was handled differently and action was taken sooner after accusations against him that even preceded the Me Too movement.

Yet, it is what it is, and the series has a chance to move on.

If you do want to read some more news in terms of when The Ranch is going to return with the second half of season 3, you can do that over at the link here. The main goal of this article is to look to the future beyond that. Is there a reasonable chance at a season 4 coming for this show in the future?

At the moment, The Ranch is largely at a creative crossroads. They have brought in Dax Shepard for a fairly substantial role in the second half of season 3, and we wonder depending on how that goes if he could be brought on for a larger part in a potential fourth season. Much of that does depend on the creative, and beyond that, it could depend on whether or not viewers are able to disassociate the series moving forward from the controversy that surrounded it because of one of its cast members. It’s not an easy thing to figure out in advance, and it may be something that Netflix takes a hard look at over the next several months.

It is understandable why the service would want to keep The Ranch around — it’s quietly one of their most-popular comedies, and without Masterson they can move forward with a cast of quality performers without those same sort of negative headlines. We’ll keep watch over the next few months, and come back with more updates as soon as we have them.
