The Good Place season 3 boss confirms Earth twist
Moving into The Good Place season 3, are we really going to see Eleanor and the rest of the main characters on Earth? We know that this was a big question at the end of season 2 — it seemed as though they were back in their old environment alive, but with this show, there’s always a small chance that this is another crazy twist and nothing is altogether as it seems.
In this particular case, however, that is not the plan for the writers. This really is a situation of “what you see is what you get.” Speaking to Rolling Stone in a new interview, this is confirmed by show executive producer Mike Schur:
“The four of them are straight-up back on Earth, in a new timeline where they didn’t die … A lot of the progress they have made as people has been sort of theoretical… it seemed like a natural move to send them back to a time before they made that progress, and to use the idea of nearly dying to test their ability to improve.”
For those who are concerned over whether or not some of the fantastical elements from the first season will be gone, we wouldn’t be overly concerned. Judging from what Schur suggests in this interview, we could end up seeing a format that is somewhat similar to the end of season 2 where you see Michael show up at the bar. Michael and Janet are far too invested in the process at this point, and we already know that Michael has too much on the line at this point to let it slip into the back of his brain. He’s going to be invested in every single way that he possibly can. That’s good for us for the sake of quality.
As for many of the main characters being somewhat separated from each other, is that going to be a real part of the series’ DNA for a long time? We absolutely wouldn’t count on that.
