Wynonna Earp season 3 team on upcoming mission, Wayhaught, and more

Wynonna Earp season 3 trailer

In addition to the Wynonna Earp season 3 trailer that was unveiled earlier in the day (which over at the link here), we are lucky to have a few more details about what lies ahead courtesy of the ATX Television Festival on Friday. The reason that this is exciting is because by and large, the folks over at Syfy have kept a tight lid on some of what is coming up in terms of the story. They’ve wanted to keep this as secret as they possibly can, which is certainly understandable; yet, isn’t it nice to have at least a few different things to sink your teeth into?

In particular, Wynonna giving birth to her baby is going to have a significant bit to do with what drives her moving forward — even if this said baby is not actually around in the flesh. Per Deadline, here is what executive producer Emily Andras had to say on that subject:

“Wynonna is more determined than ever because she and Doc [Holliday] had to do something fairly significant which is giving up their child … It really feels like this team is taking on this very definitive goal which is this demon who cursed the Earps in the first place named Bulshar… the stakes and the consequences are bigger this year.”

We do have a feeling that the battle against Bulshar is going to be so much more difficult than anyone would imagine in the first place … which really shouldn’t be all that big of a surprise, given that this is the way almost any battle on this show is. If things were easy, Wynonna Earp would have about three minutes of action an episode and then forty or so minutes of watching people drink and have a good time. (That does sound fun, mind you.) This is not going to be easy for Wynonna or anyone else.

As for the relationship between Waverly and Nicole a.k.a. Wayhaught, here is some of what Katherine Barrell (who plays Nicole) had to say about what’s coming:

“…We see them at another stage of their relationship which is being more comfortable and settling into life as a couple. They’re at a new level of comfort and a new level of honesty with each other and with that comes amazing tension. It’s a fantastic thing to see more queer relationships in a real form.”

Basically, we’re getting a chance to watch this relationship become more stable and, in turn, tackle real issues even in the midst of some very unreal conflicts. What’s not to love about all of this? The way in which things are building between these two feels just about perfect and we are certainly curious to see where it leads.

Wynonna Earp season 3 premieres on Syfy come Friday, July 20.
