Poldark season 4 screening held in Cornwall, early season 5 work underway

Poldark

As we inch ever closer to the premiere of Poldark season 4 on BBC One this weekend, there are many causes of great celebration. For many cast, crew, and fans, that included getting to visit Cornwall on Tuesday for a chance to screen the premiere episode. It was a lively occasion, and while we don’t want to give anything away from some of the reports that are out there, all signs point towards an epic season ahead that is larger in scope than any that has come before it.

So rather than give anything away, why not go ahead and look towards the long-term future instead? Poldark has already been renewed for a fifth season and based on some of the reports that are out there about the series, it could be the last one. That hasn’t necessarily been 100% confirmed but with a massive time jump coming within the source material, it seems like the cast and crew are fine to let the series sit on the shelf for a while following the conclusion for that particular season.

Speaking at the screening per the BBC, show executive producer Karen Thrussell said “never say never” in regards to revisiting the series someday, but also made it clear that the story is building its way towards a natural conclusion. She also made it clear that work is already underway on the fifth season, which is probably in the variety of writing and other important matters pertaining to pre-production. Filming will likely not begin until a little bit later in the summer / early fall, with this season airing likely at some point in 2019.

For US viewers, we understand that the wait for season 4 is still a long one — while the show is premiering on Sunday in Great Britain, it will not be back on the air in America until presumably this fall.
