Wynonna Earp season 3 premiere airing early on Syfy
The network confirmed this week that the first episode of the season, entitled “Blood Red and Going Down,” is going to air come Monday, July 16 at 11:00 p.m. Eastern time, following an airing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. This is a move that seems to be twofold: Giving the premiere episode a small boost from the Harry Potter fandom, and then also making sure that everyone attending San Diego Comic-Con has a chance to check out the episode before traveling and/or partying. (Comic-Con this year officially is open to the public on Thursday, July 19.)
There’s nothing but positive news to report on when it comes to this, given that this marks Syfy giving Wynonna Earp some extra sampling. They want nothing more than the show to be an even bigger hit. It has a super-devoted following and is well-received by critics, but the ratings are still on the lower end for some of their series. A part of this is just due to its super-tough timeslot on Friday nights, but the other part of it is probably just that there are so many viewers who haven’t been exposed to it just yet. If this special airing leads to a few more Earpers joining the fold, it’s absolutely easy to celebrate this move. Anything that helps to get us a season 4 sooner rather than later. (We’ll be surprised if there’s another renewal at Comic-Con like we had last year, just because the show was already deep into its run at the time in which the convention happened in 2017.)
