Suits season 8: First look at Katherine Heigl’s Samantha Wheeler
To go along with that, it also seems as though Wheeler is going to prove to be a worthy test for Donna to try and figure out. The idea of this is a little bit unusual, given that one of Donna’s signature calling cards is being able to read precisely into the intentions of others.
This dynamic is something that Heigl herself teases to Entertainment Weekly, who also has a first-look photo of her on the series below:
“The fact that Donna can’t quite put her finger on Samantha is really fun to play … Our first scene together was just like that — she’s trying to figure out Samantha, and Samantha’s not really giving much of anything away.”
Given that Heigl is a series regular we like to assume that over time, there are some better bonds that are forged — we just think that, in general, she faces an uphill battle trying to win any of these people over. There was such an affection for Mike Ross and Rachel Zane that overcoming their exits is going to be one of the hardest parts about season 8, both in terms of characters and viewers. That’s why one of the things that Suits is doing so intelligently is trying to populate the world with a lot of familiar faces. Heigl is the only new regular who is a new face; Dule Hill (Alex Williams) and Amanda Schull (Katrina Bennett) have both been on the show for at least a year, and there is a general sense of familiarity associated with their characters.
