Work already underway on Gotham season 5
The one thing that is clear, though, is that the writers are not wasting too much time preparing for what should be a really-epic season coming up! In a post on Twitter, the series’ writers room confirmed that they are “busy cooking up a crazy epic season 5” and they are thrilled to be able to share that.
So why start the writing process so early, especially with the season 5 premiere date so far down the road? It’s probably because the show will not likely change its production schedule all that much in terms of their start dates — don’t be shocked if season 5 starts in June as it often does and then finishes much earlier, given that the final season is set to only have 13 episodes. This is the best way for the cast and crew to wrap things up for this show and then also look towards what is next in terms of their careers. It would allow the cast to be available for new pilots, which is nice for people who want to dive right back into work immediately.
At the moment, it does feel like the bulk of the regular cast is due to return, though we’re not altogether sure on Drew Powell since, for now, Butch seems pretty dead. (We’re a little more optimistic about Lee and obviously, the Riddler’s not going anywhere.) This final season should be a great celebration of everything that Gotham is, what it was, and what it could be for Batman in the future. It’s certainly going to be different than anything we’ve seen to date.
