Celebrity Big Brother season 2 will happen, even without Winter Olympics
Is this a surprise? Both yes and no. There was never any 100% confirmation that this would happen, even after the first season performed respectably against the Winter Olympics earlier this year. With that being said, we do think that it was a reasonable success and this show is a big money-maker for CBS — they get the ratings and then, beyond that, they get everyone watching via the live feeds — even though the show lasts less than a month, that’s still a CBS All Access subscription from a number of consumers.
As for what the episode structure will be this time around, that remains to be seen. Our sentiment is that you move the premiere up to January and air the show at a time when CBS routinely airs a lot of repeats anyway. That way, they can keep their February sweeps schedule this year reasonably unaltered while offering up fans much of what they want. We imagine that the competition will run for a similar span of time. While we would hope for a crop of celebrities that would all be serious about playing the game, it’s fair to not really expect that. With this sort of show there are always going to be a few contestants who are just there for the attention — but then again, the same goes for the flagship season.
This news comes a little over a month before Big Brother 20 will likely premiere on CBS this June. The network hasn’t officially confirmed a date just yet but based on past seasons alone, there’s little reason for them to move things around. More news about this show will likely come either at upfronts or beyond.
