Shadowhunters season 3 episode 8 review: Death sentence
For Clary – This one is fairly simple: Her trial has ended with a death sentence. She’s separated from the rest of her friends and she’s gone from being a hero at the start of the season to being in grave danger. To make matters worse, but it does feel like everyone else is so preoccupied that they may not be able to help her in time.
For most of the Institute – Despite everything that they went through in order to get Jace back, in the end the character was taken back by Lilith in the midst of a negotiation between her and the Seelie Queen. With the Owl taken back we’re not sure how much closer any of the heroes are anywhere closer to getting some of the answers that they so seek.
For Maia – Is Alisha Wainwright leaving the show? We’d be shocked if that was the case, but the character is leaving for a while for a pretty understandable reason: She wants to get herself back together after all of the Jordan drama that has transpired as of late. In between this and everything with Simon, it’s pretty darn clear that she is inundated. Everyone at this point is inundated.
No one at the moment is completely safe given some of what could be coming — while there is more information on Lilith that our heroes have had before, they still haven’t pieced every single thing together in regards to what is going on with her hopes of reviving Jonathan. The biggest problem that they’re going to have at the moment with Lilith isn’t the fact that she is powerful; it is that she is also smart and a very sound strategist. Not only does she excel at taking out her opponents, but she also knows how to work with people at times in order to pursue some of her end goals.
CarterMatt Verdict
Overall, Shadowhunters season 3 episode 8 was an exceptional hour of television that was stuffed with drama and some really heartbreaking performances. There’s nothing quite like seeing someone like Izzy manage to get through to Jace within his inner consciousness only for it to not actually matter. It’s rather heartbreaking, but that was a big component of this episode as a whole. Heartbreak took center stage and with just two episodes left this spring, things are going to get even more chaotic soon.
