The Resident season 2: How should the show use Hunter & Bell going forward?

The Resident

Fox recently renewed the freshmen medical drama, The Resident and we could not be more excited. As we have stated before, we love this drama because it’s different from any other medical show on television. One reason it is different is because this show has villains, Dr. Lane Hunter and Dr. Randolph Bell running around making everyone miserable. Unlike, popular shows Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago MedThe Resident does not make its ensemble all buddies. The Resident’s cast clashes and it’s one of the reasons we love to tune in. So going into season 2 how should the show continue to use Dr. Hunter and Dr. Bell?

Continue with Dr. Hunter’s questionable clinic – Now the season 1 finale will be exciting and explosive (it’s airing on Monday so be sure you tune in!). Nic is in jail, Lane is giving patients chemo medication even if they do not have cancer, and Conrad and Devon have to find a way to prove it. Meanwhile, the promo suggests that Dr. Bell will help Lane cover up her illegal practices. For season 2, we hope they continue down this storyline and see the writers expand on this. Lane is a great and complex character who attracts so much hatred from fans that they tune in every week to see what she will do next. This is why the show needs to continue to use her in this way. Obviously, if she were to get arrested at the end of season 1, that would be how the cookie crumbles, but by keeping this storyline running fans will continue to follow the show.

Dr. Bell as CEO – With Dr. Bell, he now holds a great power that we all agree he should not. However, now in the position of CEO, Dr. Bell has control over the doctors and nurses’ jobs. As we saw with Nic, he fired her as soon as he could and covered up his OR mistake with getting the previous CEO fired with help from Lane. Season 2 needs to continue to use Dr. Bell as CEO so he can cover up his past mistakes and his hand tremor. Overall, Drs Hunter and Bell are a powerful dynamic and, in our opinion, the best villainous couple on television.

Keeping the pair as a couple – As we said above the dynamic between them is amazing and we really want to see that continue. When the show made them a couple, it elevated the game. Dr. Hunter seems to be using Dr. Bell, while at the same time he appears to be using her. However, it seems as though they genuinely like the other. This is extremely powerful and the way the writers play it out is great, so going into season 2 we hope that continue this.
