Saturday Night Live video: Expectations for Donald Glover show
Glover is, of course, one of the most-talented performers that we’ve seen on the sketch series to date and he is the sort of guy who really can do everything. There was a time when he was doing more stand-up comedy earlier on in his Community days, so we know that he can get up on stage and do live comedy without a problem. He also started out as a writer on 30 Rock, so he’s worked under one of the best comedy minds out there in Tina Fey and knows the sort of material that works well on this show.
Maybe we’re setting the bar too high for someone who hasn’t hosted the show before, but this has all of the makings of being one of the best episodes of the whole season. Glover will probably use his musical talents in multiple sketches and we wouldn’t be shocked if he did some sort of spoof on Atlanta, his hit FX show that has become an Emmy darling. (If not that, maybe we’re going to get some sort of Solo: A Star Wars Story piece in here somewhere.)
In general, SNL has to be relishing some of what they’re getting a chance to showcase throughout the month of May. After Glover’s show we’re going to get an appearance from Amy Schumer on May 12, and then after that Fey herself will close out the season on May 19. This is going to be a chance for some of the best comedy talent to really showcase their strengths as season 43, a pretty strong season for this show, comes to a close.
