NCIS season 15: Why is Abby Scuito leaving? The current theory
In this promo, you see Abby in the hospital, seemingly doing her best to recover from the shooting that happened at the end of tonight’s episode? Unfortunately, we have no real sense as to how Clayton Reeves is doing and we’re very much worried about him. With Abby, we like to think that she will live — but this is also the show that killed off Caitlin Todd and (supposedly) killed off Ziva David. You can’t rule anything out here.
Let’s say, for the time being, that Abby does survive the shooting but still decides to leave. Why could she do that? There are a couple of different reasons.
1. A desire to keep herself safe – Abby loves being a part of NCIS, but there could be a time in which she starts to think that it is really not worth the danger and pain anymore. That’s a perfect incentive for her to leave the series and move on to do some other things.
2. Guilt over Reeves dying – If Reeves does in fact die, it’s possible that Abby can’t stomach what he did in order to help her survive. She could leave to go work exclusively with Final Salute as a way to honor him.
3. Different perspective – This doesn’t necessarily mean anything other than the idea that after going through something so harrowing, maybe Abby just wants to be able to go on and live her life in a way that she hasn’t. Maybe there are more things on her bucket list that she wants to check off that she just can’t do as a member of NCIS.
No matter what happens, there’s one thing we do know: We’re going to miss Abby dearly and this upcoming episode is going to be tough. She’s become a part of many viewers’ television families, and that is precisely what happens when you get a character who has been around for a solid decade and a half. It’s really difficult to imagine what the NCIS world will look like without her being a part of it. It’s even crazier to think just how the series is going to replace her. Luckily, we figure that CBS doesn’t have to make some sort of official announcement until later on in the summer. (Remember that the series has been formally renewed already.)
