Is someone leaving The Walking Dead after the season 8 finale?

Walking Dead season 8

As we entered tonight’s The Walking Dead finale, we felt like it was pretty darn clear that there would be at least one character to date. That’s the foundation of this show, after all! The big mystery was going to be how the big move all came about and what was going to happen on the other side of it.

Well, here’s the big surprise: The Walking Dead tonight chose to not kill off Negan or anyone else. However, there are still questions on the fate of one other important character in Dwight. Is Austin Amelio leaving the series after the conclusion to what we saw tonight? There is a good reason to wonder this.

Near the end of tonight’s episode, we saw Dwight’s life spared at the hands of Daryl, who effectively told him to take the car keys, drive away, and never return — if he did, Daryl vowed to kill him once and for all.

What this means here effectively is that we could be seeing Dwight spending most of his time now off trying to find Sherry, the woman he loves and the woman who Negan tried to take from him. Whether or not he finds her remains to be seen, but we’d probably watch a full episode about this without really complaining in the slightest.

Now, the one thing that is of note here is the comic-book implications for the Dwight character given the fact that at some point in the source material, he becomes leader of the Saviors. If the show is going to go in that route, they have to get moving on it before too long. If they don’t go this route, then our feeling is that the show may not be giving us too much of the Saviors moving forward. This is also going to be a little different in that Daryl isn’t in the comics and with that in mind, the situation could be different now.
