Code Black season 3: why Leanne and Jesse are the true heroes of Angels Memorial

In continuing with our ongoing TV Heroes series, we want to shine a light on two people from CBS’s Code Black that are the true heroes of Angels Memorial Hospital, Doctor Leanne Rorish and Jesse Salander, or otherwise known as “Daddy” and “Momma” by the residents. Together these two help their ER residents by being both tough and caring. They challenge them because they know they have the potential to be successful despite the specific challenge Angels Memorial faces. The obstacle faced here is that the doctors must tend to patients in an understaffed, busy emergency room that lacks sufficient resources. It’s easy to at times to want to give up or think about changing specialties.

Enter “Daddy” and “Momma”. Leanne is the one who pushes the residents to their breaking point, but is always there to assist when something goes wrong. She even knows when something is above their skill level and steps in and allows the residents to watch her and learn. She’s a hero because of this skillful knowledge of how to train her residents and how stands up for the ER. With resources in short supply along with people, she is the one who demands that the ER not be the one who picks the short straw.

Jesse is the often times the one residents come to when they need someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, or someone to be their cheerleader. He always is the one who helps Leanne. He helps her see rationally and is her person. The two of them make that ER because without them it would be in chaos.

This show proves that heroes aren’t always what the definition defines. These two make another argument for what a hero is. When we look at Dr. Leanne Rorish and Jesse Salander, we see heroes who protect, care, and push their pupils to be the best they can be. They have their best interests at heart and when they thrive, Leanne and Jesse recognize that they succeed too. She isn’t a normal doctor who wants all the glory for herself, she gets that glory from her residents succeeding and that in itself is a great characteristic of hers. Jesse is the same way. He believes a good day is when the hospital goes into code black and the residents learn something productive and thrive.

It’s amazing to watch the dynamic between these two and what that we believe they are heroes and should be mentioned. We can’t wait to see Season 3.
