Scandal season 7 episode 17 sneak peek: Mellie prepares for legal warfare

When Scandal season 7 episode 17 airs on ABC on Thursday night, you have to prepare for what is going to be a war like virtually no other. In one corner, you’ve got Cyrus and Jake attempting to do whatever they can to destroy the show’s brand of Democracy. In the other corner, you’ve got Mellie Grant, Olivia Pope, and that crew. There is a legal battle brewing that could change the entire course of the country.

Let’s make one thing clear: Under no circumstances can Olivia and Mellie stand to lose. THEY CANNOT LOSE. They have to do everything that they can in order to shield themselves from virtually whatever sort of chaos is going to come their way. There’s going to be a lot of it and everyone needs to figure out how to weather the storm.

Ultimately, this is what the new sneak peek (via TVLine) is going to be focused on. Here, Mellie does her best to understand that truth is her weapon and that while it may be tempting to go up on the stand and plead the fifth, that is really not her best option in this case. Don’t hide behind anything, tell the truth, and make it clear that you don’t have anything to hide. There’s a good chance that you’re going to be seeing some of the other characters on the show (most notably Cyrus and Jake) enter the field with confidence. In order to respond to that, the President needs to be equally confident.

Even if Mellie makes it out of this okay, it’s hard to imagine that any other storylines are going to be completely resolved by the end of the episode. After all, the series finale is going to be one of the most intense ones to date. This is a show with a huge reputation of doing crazy things and we certainly don’t foresee that changing just because the show is ending.
