A Game of Thrones season 8 battle scene may be record-setting
According to a report coming in right now via Watchers on the Wall (citing now-deleted evidence from social media), a recent battle scene for the upcoming season took 55 days. 55 DAYS, which is absolutely insane. According to Quartz, that is more than double the longest battle scene filmed on the show to date. It may also be the longest scene of its kind ever filmed for television.
So what makes this battle so significant? We do think that it doesn’t take too much thought to speculate as to some of what the show may be filming at the moment. Just think about the forces that are at play here and also what they are fighting for. The White Walkers have broken down the wall and it’s possible that they and the surviving members of Westeros are going to do battle with the future of the kingdom on the line. There could be dragons, violence, tears, and above all major special EFFECTS. This show is breaking the bank for the final season and they should be.
The length of this battle scene does also further justify one other thing: Why the final season is going to be filming into the summer. Even though there may only be six episodes in this final season, these episodes are presumably longer than any others that Game of Thrones has produced so far. To go along with that, there’s so much action that needs to be had. These sort of scenes obviously take time, and beyond that there needs to be time to hone all of the various effects in order to ensure that the story lives up to expectations and holds the test of time.
