Grey’s Anatomy season 14 episode 18 video: Amelia, DeLuca’s moment
Grey’s Anatomy season 14 episode 18 is going to be coming up on ABC Thursday night, and judging from the latest sneak preview all signs point towards something big coming. “Hold Back the River” is an episode in part based on achievement, and for the trio of Amelia, DeLuca, and Koracick, they’re gearing up for what could end up being a surgery like no other.
In the video below, you can see the trio all doing their best to gear up for the procedure — there’s a nervous excitement surrounding it and you can see that in how they are acting. The procedure itself revolves around them using ultrasound waves to try and remove a young patient’s brain tumor. It’s a bold concept and we understand why they’re so amped-up for it. There are ultimately two different kinds of doctors: Those who are obsessed with the glory, and those who are intent to try to find more ways to make their patients’ lives better. Maybe within this trio you’ve got a mixture of the two. Amelia’s not so much glory-driven but we certainly think Koracick is on some level. The one thing that they can all agree on is that what they are doing here could change the world of medicine in a big way.

While we obviously have some questions as to what’s going on outside of the medical world for some of these doctors, it’s nice to have this preview be focused almost entirely on medicine and what matters at present — trying to come up with experimental medicine in order to save some lives. This is a different sort of journey than what we’ve been on as of late for Grey’s Anatomy but one of the questions we’ve got coming out of it is pretty clear: What is going to happen in the event that some of these tests prove successful? We’ve seen on the series before some of the aftereffects that come with some of the other doctors getting fame. With that, it’d be interesting to see if this operation puts a wind in these characters’ sails and changes their lives in some grand way.
If nothing else, at least enjoy the moment of humor that comes in the sneak peek below. You typically only get a small slice of that in every episode of Grey’s Anatomy these days.
