Will Gotham season 4 (or any other season) revisit Jim – Barbara story?
Yet, there was one thing that was pretty congruous with most of these stories: Barbara was not a psychopath in any of them. The idea of this character being completely bonkers is more of a creation of the show itself, and it doesn’t feel as though that is something that Gotham really settled on until fairly late in the first season. If you go back and watch it, you will realize just how different this character was prior to the death of her parents. She’s probably undergone more consistent change than anyone from the start of the season to where she is now leading a group of very dangerous people.
In the midst of all this change, is it still possible that Jim and Barbara could ever get back together and have a daughter? It seems unlikely but anything is possible in Gotham — that’s something that series star Ben McKenzie echoed to The Hollywood Reporter:
“We flirted and we talked about [how] Jim and Barbara are supposed to have a baby at some point … It became very difficult to see how we would be able to do that for obvious reasons. I would never say anything is completely off the table and to the degree that this show departs from a lot of the mythology or times it departs from the mythology, it does. Maybe we don’t have to tell Jim and Barbara having a baby in this, in the run of Gotham. That could happen five years from now when Barbara’s even crazier. But you never know.”

We don’t necessarily think that the relationship between Barbara and Jim is altogether important at this point, but what we wonder is this: How in the world is Jim ever going to justify naming a daughter Barbara after Barbara Kean has put him through? If he ever does have a daughter in this series she’s likely going to need to be called something different. Barbara Gordon/Oracle is pretty important to the Batman mythology as a valuable source of information from afar — her role in solving crimes has some obvious similarities to Felicity Smoak on Arrow.
