Is there more Sherlock season 5 hope? Martin Freeman clarifies comments
However, it does feel as though series star Martin Freeman threw a little bit of cold water on the idea in a recent interview, suggesting that being a part of the show had lost some of its zeal due to the hardcore fan pressure that is constantly put on him. In that interview (which you can read more about here at CarterMatt) one of the things that he says is that “some parts” of the experience aren’t fun anymore. This, in turn, has been interpreted as him saying that the show itself isn’t fun anymore.
Now, Freeman wants to clarify that. Speaking in a new interview (per the Press Association), the actor had the following to say now about the way that his comments were interpreted:
“To clear that up, in that interview I never actually said the words ‘Sherlock isn’t fun anymore’ I never said Sherlock is not fun. Sherlock is fun. I said there are elements of it, the pressure, the expectation, that is not always fun. I never said Sherlock is not fun, because it’s a f—-ng delightful job, frankly … But of course fun is what you want to spend your life doing. Fun, thought-provoking things, hopefully, challenging things.”
Does this mean that Freeman will be any closer to signing on to another season of the BBC series? Even if Freeman really disliked the show (which he doesn’t seem to) there was still a chance that he could have come back and done more down the road. The opinion that you may have on a subject today is not always how you feel when time passes – most tend to remember the good things about an experience. People change over time, especially when it comes to a series like this that offers up so much of a break between iterations.
