Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 16 preview: The search for Phil Coulson

There are a number of different things coming up on Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 16, but it feels as though the center of this story is going to revolve in part around Phil Coulson. The first reaction to that should be “go figure” — it makes sense that it would, given that Coulson is largely the focal point for this show. Most episodes, in one form or another, are putting this character in the middle of the action.

Yet, there is something about this one that feels different. This is an episode that has Coulson in a different sort of danger — nobody in SHIELD knows who he is and with his physical state being so perilous in the first place, his missing-in-action status is going to send a further chill down everyone’s spine. Trying to find him is going to be priority #1. They’ll do whatever they can, but Coulson’s not going to be sitting around waiting for rescue in the process. In an effort to save more than just himself, you are going to be seeing Clark Gregg’s character join forces with some unlikely allies. This episode should be fun, action-packed, scary, and above all pretty surprising. Isn’t it nice to get many different dimensions to a character that you haven’t seen before? With Coulson’s new teammates, you could certainly see sides of him that we haven’t seen before.

The Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 16 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below doesn’t offer up too much beyond what we’ve already said, but we do think that it is still worth reading:

Coulson is forced to team up with surprising allies to save the world, while the S.H.I.E.L.D. team attempts to track down and rescue him.

One of the things that we actually like the most about this episode is its title: “Inside Voices.” The first thing that you probably think about when reading that is of a schoolteacher telling their students to keep quiet. In reality, it’s far more serious within the Agents of SHIELD world.
