Chicago Fire season 6: DuShon Monique Brown honored with title card after death

DuShon Monique Brown

Following tonight’s Chicago Fire season 6 episode, NBC did what we personally consider to be a very great thing: Honoring actress DuShon Monique Brown, who played the character of Connie on the series.

Last week, the news first came out that Brown had passed away suddenly, and the news went on to rock the entire Chicago Fire family. She was loved and respected by so many and she did more than just act on the show. She worked with the school system, was a theater actor, and was very much quintessential Chicago. Brown is one of the people who was cast on the show because of her talent and her ties to the city; we know that Chicago Fire itself is not going to be the same without her.

The tribute tonight was small, but still powerful in the form of a title card at the end of the episode.

As for what Chicago Fire is planning to do with the Connie character moving forward, there have been no definite plans announced; yet, personally we know that it would be great to see the series find a way to tribute her through this character. Firehouse 51 has lost people before, but honoring her would be an excellent way to reminder viewers that the firehouse family extends beyond just those who put on the gear and head out into the field. It includes people who work behind the scenes to make lives easier for just about every single person who is out there. Connie clearly did that, and we can say from our one experience with her at a One Chicago Day event that she was extremely kind and engaging. She seemed to very much enjoy being a part of the show.

As we’ve said in the past, our thoughts and condolences go out to Brown’s family during what has to be a really difficult time. (Photo: NBC.)
