Outlander season 4 discussion: How could flashbacks be effective?
So while CarterMatt cannot confirm any flashbacks at all over the course of the upcoming season, what would be some of the flashbacks we would like to see? That is the main focus of this article.
For Claire – We don’t think that there necessarily needs to be any flashbacks here with Frank, mostly because season 3 did a very good job establishing the relationship that existed between them. However, it would be interesting to see more of their history with Brianna and the relationship they had — think in terms of when Bree was a teenager. She seems to be as well-adjusted as a character at her point in her life could be, but was it always really that way?
For Jamie – More of Jamie and William! While some of these scenes were fantastic during “Of Lost Things” (one of our favorite season 3 episodes), the relationship here could eventually prove useful in juxtaposing this with the relationship that Jamie will have with Brianna.
For Brianna – This is where you could actually use Tobias Menzies on the show again, mostly to draw a parallel between the relationship she has with him and also the relationship that she and Jamie could have after the two meet.
For Roger – In this case, we want to just know what pushed Richard Rankin’s character towards a deep love of history and his heritage — basically, it would be wonderful to understand more of what allowed him to be both a key cog in the Frasers’ reunion and also someone Brianna could fall in love with.

For Jocasta – This is the final major season 4 character who could benefit from some flashbacks. In this case, we just want to see more of what led to her being at River Run and how she has spent the decades leading up to Jamie and Claire’s arrival. That could explain more of who she is in the present.
