Madam Secretary season 4 episode 16: Elizabeth is left in a difficult position

Madam Secretary

CBS has released the synopsis for episode 16 for the season 4 of the political drama Madam Secretary, titled “My Funny Valentine”. For more on what’s to come, just check out the synopsis below.

“As the 20th anniversary of the American embassy bombing in Mali approaches, emotions run high among the State Department staff, who had personal connections to lives lost that day, including Elizabeth, who must decide if the U.S. should lift sanctions against the country deemed responsible. Also, Henry tries to help Jason break up with Piper, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, April 1 (10:0011:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.”

In this episode, there are a lot of moving parts. First, if fans will recall Jason’s girlfriend (Piper) was the girl who was making Jason forget about school because he claimed to be in love her. Well it appears the relationship is over for Jason. Piper is Jason’s first love and as many of us know, it’s hard when it’s over. Enter his father (Henry) who is going to try and help make the breakup as easy as possible. Of course, we anticipate there being bumps in the road. Maybe Henry’s advice to Jason backfires and Piper takes the breakup hard and hates Jason because of it. As a result, Jason feels terrible and becomes mad at Henry for the bad advice. Either way, it’s a great storyline because having a first love is all part of growing up and something most of us go through.

For Elizabeth the job as Secretary of State continues to put in her a place she doesn’t necessarily want to be in. This time she must make the decision of whether or not to lift sanctions on a country responsible for bombing an American embassy in Mali. This bombing effected many people who work at the State Department, including Elizabeth. What will be interesting to see if whether or not Elizabeth lets her emotions make the decision instead of her conscience. Her job is to think of the greater good of the country, not the emotions of herself and her staff. She must ask herself, “will this benefit the United States if I lift the sanctions.” This is not easy questions to answer, despite sounding like a simple question. Elizabeth has always followed her conscience and has made decisions with the country’s intentions in mind, so it will be intriguing to see if this remains true.
