The Big Bang Theory cast pays tribute to Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking - "The Big Bang Theory"

Following his tragic death at the age of 76, the cast of The Big Bang Theory are coming through with some tributes to the late, great Stephen Hawking.

If you look below, you can see what almost everyone familiar with the CBS show’s cast had to say about working with Hawking, who appeared as himself across a number of different seasons of the show. We will continue to say that he remains the series’ greatest guest star, both in terms of unpredictable comedy and also overall impact on the series itself. A character like Sheldon Cooper would be enamored with Hawking, just as many would be within the science community. He was one of the most brilliant men of our time and it was a gift that the series had a chance to have him around on the series however long that they did.

These tributes are touching, and we hope that an upcoming episode of the series (which is off the air until later this month) will choose to honor him with some sort of title card. We do also wonder if there is a way that the show chooses to write his passing into the story — it is a challenge since you don’t want to use the tragedy for attention, but it is also organic to these characters and their world. Someone like Sheldon would be greatly impacted by Hawking’s death. One of the other challenges is just that many upcoming scripts are already written and the show is, at present, pretty close to the end of the season.

In addition to seeing some of the cast tributes, you can see some of what we had to say about Hawking’s death in the video below.

He will be very much remembered as an icon and one of the most important scientists ever. His family and friends remain in our thoughts. (Photo: CBS.)

Thank you, Stephen Hawking. ❤️
