House of Cards season 6 promo: Robin Wright’s time to shine

Tonight, Netflix unveiled the first House of Cards season 6 promo, and what a powerful promo it is! While this one is simple, it does a very good job at conveying a powerful message: Claire Underwood is now in charge.

Robin Wright was front and center for this promo, and it feels as though this season is really going to pick up precisely where the most-recent season left off … regardless of whether or not Kevin Spacey is going to be present. At this point, the headlines about him are omnipresent and the news of his firing is out there. The reason for the delay in the final season airing (it is now set for fall) is simply due to the rewriting that needed to be done in order to shape the new story.

We certainly think that it’s likely that we’re going to have an even better season than ever this year, mostly because Claire is that character who has built momentum and steam throughout the season. She’s earned her power and now is truly ready to rule. It also feels pretty perfect that the series is unflinching with Claire in the aftermath of what may very well be Frank Underwood’s death. (How else do you write that character out?)

This season will be dark, political, twisted, and fascinating — it’s everything that you could want from House of Cards. Given that this is one of Netflix’s first signature series — it launched at a time in which there wasn’t all that much conversation out there regarding their original programming — it deserves a chance to go off into the sunset in an absolutely perfect way. This final season is that opportunity; let’s just hope that it lives up to some of the lofty expectations that we have.
