Fuller House creator Jeff Franklin fired over misconduct allegations

When Fuller House returns to the air later this year, it will be doing so without its creator in Jeff Franklin.

According to a new report from Variety, Franklin has been let go as showrunner for the upcoming batch of episodes for the Netflix comedy; meanwhile, studio Warner Bros. TV has declined to renew their overall deal with him. The report notes that Franklin has been subject of complaints regarding verbally abusive behavior towards writers and him making a number of inappropriate comments about his sex life. He was also reportedly accused of bringing women he dated to the set and trying to find ways to incorporate him into the show. He has not been accused of any direct sexual harassment or physical misconduct with an individual staff member.

Reportedly there have been complaints in the works regarding Franklin for some time, but in the midst of the Me Too movement, one in which the entertainment business is finally starting to clean up its act, both Netflix and Warner Bros. TV decided to make this move. Fuller House production for season 4 will officially kick off later this year.

Franklin is not the first showrunner to be removed from his post over misconduct allegations; beyond that, he is also not the first person affiliated with a Netflix series. Kevin Spacey, the star and executive producer for House of Cards, was fired over some charges made against him last year. Meanwhile, Netflix also decided to write out Danny Masterson from The Ranch over allegations of sexual assault.

Fuller House was brought to Netflix as a follow-up to Full House, another show created by Franklin. He was on board that series for most of its run; ironically, he was not the showrunner for the later seasons of Full House, either, but for completely unrelated reasons.
