Olympics: The Simpsons predicted U.S. Men’s Curling Team winning Gold Medal
In a post on Twitter, writer Rob LaZebnik pointed out that on an episode of The Simpsons back in 2010, Homer actually ended up helping to win the curling gold medal way back when. It’s another funny coincidence, but it’s really even funnier when you consider what part of the original intention for the joke was.
Whether it be Donald Trump being President or the Disney – Fox acquisition, one of the reasons why The Simpsons makes such bizarre predictions much of the time is simply because they’re thinking outside of the box while often inside of the room. The writers throw in predictions that, in theory, could happen; yet, they’re so far out there that nobody actually thinks that they for-sure will at the time that they were made. Disney buying Fox was mostly just a joke about Disney’s spreading empire at the time, while Trump being President was mostly a jab at the man’s ego. Yet, here we are.
As for the Olympics victory in curling, we see this by and large as the series having some fun at the expense of a sport that is not even remotely popular in America. There’s virtually no way that anyone saw this victory coming, which is in turn why it probably is so sweet now. The team did win in an upset victory over Sweden, the sort of Nordic country that usually dominates many of thee said sports. There are probably one a few specific parts of America where curling is a sport even a percentage of people play.
For those wondering The Simpsons will return with new episodes on Sunday, March 11, on the other side of the Academy Awards.
