Is Everything Sucks! renewed for season 2 by Netflix?
For the time being, there is no word on the future of the series, and there may not be for a little while just because Everything Sucks! is in the vein of Atypical or some of the other under-the-radar Netflix series over the years. It’s not coming onto the service with any huge stars or massive promotional campaign. This is a coming-of-age series set in the 1990’s that is going to rely more on word-of-mouth. Netflix is good at having some of its series find success this way. This is what turned Orange is the New Black and Stranger Things into hits, and with pretty solid reviews the same exact thing could end up happening here.
If this was Netflix three or four years ago, we’d say that we were pretty darn confident that an Everything Sucks! season 2 would happen. The Netflix of old was a streaming service that seemed to be significantly more invested in issuing renewals to various shows that needed a chance to grow. We do think that this impulse is still there, but there’s also a realization at this point that there are more options and shows that they can take a risk on. There’s not so much a need to renew the majority of new programming now if it’s not performing. With that, we don’t want to express too much confidence in a renewal yet.
If you find yourself enjoying Everything Sucks! after the premiere, the path to a renewal here is actually really simple: Just go and tell most of your friends to check out the show! Netflix will make decisions based on popularity so getting the biggest audience possible, plus some substantial social-media traction, can go a long way.
